Orienta Sicilia is the first and largest event in Southern Italy dedicated to school, university and professional orientation, organized by Associazione ASTER. Now at its 24th edition, it has become the reference point for thousands of Sicilian young people facing the choice of future studies and profession. The event gathers in one place the most important universities from all over Italy and abroad, academies and numerous other realities active in professional training, with around 100 stands to welcome young visitors.

What to expect is a stimulating excursus among numerous proposals including classic and modern studies, fashion and design, arts and communication, military and civil service careers, and professional training. The manifestation is structured as Fiera dell’Università e dei Mestieri exclusively for students of last classes of high schools, and also includes Fiera della Scuola Media for conscious choice of secondary studies. More than 15,000 high school students from all over Sicily participate, guided by their teachers in a path that promotes self-knowledge of own aptitudes, abilities and propensities to choose with confidence the profession or work of future.

Orienta Sicilia is not just an exhibition but an authentic cultural animation project inspired by principles of gratuity and hope, active all year through Centro di Orientamento Permanente ASTER which supports students until definitive choice with discernment tools specifically studied.

The venue for Orienta Sicilia is Fiera del Mediterraneo in Palermo, located at Via Sadat 13, with main activity inside Padiglione 20. Fiera del Mediterraneo is the historic fair district of Palermo, with large pavilions, exhibition halls and outdoor areas suitable for hosting orientation events with thousands of students, stands and workshop areas.

The exhibition site hosts around 100 stands arranged in a clear path that allows school groups to visit all areas efficiently. At entrance, reception and accreditation area welcomes school groups, teachers and individual visitors. Inside, stands are divided by sector including universities and higher education institutions, academies of fashion and design, arts and communication, military forces and civil service, and professional training providers. Central area hosts workshop rooms, one-to-one orientation desks and stage for talks.

Fiera del Mediterraneo offers complete support services including cloakroom, press office, meeting rooms, business center and first aid. The complex offers parking areas for school buses and cars, and is well connected to city center. Its location in southern part of Palermo makes it easily reachable for schools from all over Sicily, with dedicated bus access for student groups.

Full education programme

The full education programme of Orienta Sicilia is designed to provide many opportunities for comparison and in-depth analysis on all themes linked to choice of studies and profession, combining exhibition, seminars, workshops and personalized consultations.

University and Profession Fair: Programme includes Fiera dell’Università e dei Mestieri exclusively for students of last classes of high schools, offering overview of degree courses and occupational perspectives offered by university courses. Exhibitors present their degree courses and specificities, allowing students to make ideal journey through many Italian and foreign universities present to discover study course that best suits them.

Middle School Fair: Fiera della Scuola Media for conscious and matured choice of secondary studies, dedicated to students finishing middle school and their families, presenting high school options.

Cultural Animation and Orientation Workshops: Programme includes moments of cultural animation, because authentic orientation cannot prescind from cultural animation. Word culture is born from cultivation of land. Without patient work of farmer fields cannot be fertile. From cultivation of fields word passed to cultivation of own humanity. Workshops include self-knowledge, aptitude testing and ability assessment to mature authentic and conscious choices.

Institutional Presentations: Participation of Presidency of Council of Ministers – Department for Youth Policies and Universal Civil Service to present purposes and objectives of National Civil Service, Italian Army, State Police, Guardia di Finanza, Navy, Air Force and Carabinieri to best orient boys and girls wanting to pursue military career.

Universities & educational institutions

Orienta Sicilia gathers the most important universities from all over Italy and abroad, plus academies and higher education institutions, making it first manifestation in South Italy for university orientation.

Italian Universities: Presence of major public universities including University of Palermo, University of Parma, University of Genoa, University of Trieste, Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna Pisa, University of Milan, Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome, and many others covering north, center and south Italy. Each university presents with institutional stand, informative materials and staff, lecturers and students to present educational offer and services.

Academies and Higher Education: Academies of fashion and design, arts and communication, music conservatories, art academies and design institutes presenting courses in fashion, design, arts, communication and entertainment.

ASTER ONE TO ONE: One of most successful formats is ASTER ONE TO ONE, a mode of interview that allows students to select exhibitors of their interest present in fair with whom to carry out personalized interview through ASTER video conference channels, after having taken part in event. Purpose is to make their choice as conscious as possible.

Orientation Workshops: Workshops during Orienta Sicilia include self-knowledge, aptitude testing, ability and propensity analysis, cultural animation sessions and discernment paths specifically studied to allow students to carry out in-depth discernment journey.

Institutional Talks: Talks by Presidency of Council of Ministers on National Civil Service and Youth Card, plus presentations by military forces on career paths, requirements and opportunities.

University Presentations: Each university and academy organizes presentations of own educational offer, degree courses, admission tests, scholarships and student services, with Q&A sessions for students and teachers.

Admission & registration

Orienta Sicilia is dedicated to students of last classes of high schools from all over Sicily, with free admission for students and teachers, organized to facilitate school groups.

Student Admission: Participation is free for high school students, university students and teachers. Students of fifth classes participate as part of outgoing orientation activities organized by schools. Schools register groups through organizational secretariat and via website orientasicilia.it in section Chi partecipa and register in Area Riservata Studenti.

Individual Visitors: Individual students, families and teachers can access fair upon registration on official website, receiving entrance pass and information kit. More than 15,000 students participated in recent edition, with school buses organized.

Professional Accreditation: Teachers, guidance counselors and orientation operators can request accreditation for access to teacher training areas, online courses accredited and dedicated workshops.

Centro di Orientamento Permanente ASTER: Permanent orientation center active all year for all boys and girls wanting to be oriented and supported until definitive choice. Association ASTER makes available to students various tools specifically studied that allow them to carry out in-depth discernment path, to allow students to mature authentic and conscious choices.

One-to-One Interviews and Consultations: Personalized interviews with exhibitors through video conference after fair, plus one-to-one orientation desks during event with expert counselors helping students discover own aptitudes.

Career Guidance: Information on occupational perspectives offered by degree courses, professional outlets, military careers with Italian Army, Police, Guardia di Finanza, Navy, Air Force, Carabinieri, plus civil service and third sector opportunities.

Group Access: Event is dedicated to students of last classes of high schools, with school groups welcomed and guided in stimulating excursus among proposals. School groups must be accompanied by teachers and follow scheduled entry times to avoid overcrowding.

Badge and Registration: Personal badge must be worn visibly after registration in Area Riservata Studenti on website orientasicilia.it section Chi partecipa. Badge grants access to stands, workshops and talks.

Conduct: Professional and respectful conduct required. Students are invited to prepare questions in advance, visit stands of interest and participate actively in workshops. No smoking inside pavilion.

From Palermo center distance is about 6 km. Ample signage directs to Fiera del Mediterraneo. Large parking available for school buses and cars.

バスで： AMAT bus lines including 101, 102, 107, 246 connect Palermo center and university area to Fiera del Mediterraneo. Special shuttle services may be arranged during major fairs from central stations. School buses have dedicated parking area.
