概要

Radici del Sud 2027 – Italy is the most important multi-event in Southern Italy dedicated entirely to wines from native grape varieties and extra virgin olive oils of the South. Organized since 2005 by the Radici del Sud Association, currently led by President Nicola Campanile and promoted by Propapilla – tourism wine and food, the event has become a cultural project that has helped redefine the narrative of Southern Italian wine, placing identity, biodiversity and territory at the center. The Association is based in Triggiano, Bari, and works every year with the patronage of the Municipality of Sannicandro di Bari, the Puglia Region, the Chamber of Commerce of Bari, LUM Business School, and in collaboration with Assoenologi, AEPI, Vinarius and AIS Puglia.

What makes Radici del Sud unique is its structure as a true journey that lasts almost a week. It is not a one-day fair, but a multievent that develops over six days, with a precise and consolidated flow that brings together producers, international buyers, importers, journalists, bloggers, Masters of Wine, sommeliers, restaurateurs and passionate winelovers. The heart of the event is the Exhibition of Wines and Oils from Southern Italy, where around one hundred producers from Puglia, Abruzzo, Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Molise, Sardinia and Sicily present their labels, but the value of the event lies above all in the relationships it manages to weave, thanks to press and buyer tours, B2B meetings and a rigorous blind tasting competition.

For its 22nd edition, Radici del Sud confirms its vocation of giving visibility to the viticulture and olive cultivation of Southern Italy, providing a detailed representation of both sectors and their links with the territories, to give them particular appeal on foreign and national markets. The final day, traditionally open to the public, transforms the venue into a large tasting hall where operators and enthusiasts can meet producers directly, taste hundreds of labels and participate in the great final party with the winning wines.

このフードイベントを特別なものにしているのは何でしょうか?

A focus that no other event has: Radici del Sud is the only event in Italy that focuses exclusively on native vines of the South. While most wine fairs showcase everything, here the absolute protagonists are indigenous grape varieties such as Primitivo, Negroamaro, Nero di Troia, Aglianico, Fiano, Falanghina, Greco, Vermentino, Cannonau, Carignano, Nerello Mascalese, Susumaniello and many lesser-known varieties that represent the enormous wine heritage of the Mezzogiorno. This focus has allowed the event to become a privileged observatory for understanding the evolution of Southern wine.

A real professional platform, not just a tasting: The event was born to increase the export capacity of wine and oil companies and to open dialogue channels between operators, foreign observers and producers. The first three days are dedicated to immersive Press and Buyer Tours, where international journalists and importers are accompanied to discover villages, vineyards, cellars and oil mills participating in Radici del Sud. The following two days are dedicated to B2B meetings between importers and producers and to the sessions of the competition, judged by two different panels of experts. Only the last day is open to the public, which guarantees a highly professional environment for business.

The competition with double jury: The Southern Wine Competition is one of the most serious and respected in Italy. Tastings are strictly blind and conducted by two different juries, one made up of international journalists and buyers who evaluate wines taking into account trends in wine tastes outside Italy, and the other made up of Italian journalists, bloggers and experts who bring a more in-depth knowledge of territories and native vines. Wines are divided by grape variety, which allows a more immediate reading of results and a real enhancement of each native variety. The award ceremony is followed by a final conference on wine trends, market changes and sustainability.

A historic venue with strong identity: Since its 20th edition, the event has found its beating heart in the former Distilleria Paolo Cassano in Gioia del Colle, in the province of Bari. Listed as a monumental and environmental heritage site by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage since 1992, this former distillery is an industrial archaeology site that has been renovated into a suggestive events space, perfect for hosting competition tables, conferences and public tasting counters. Previously, the final public day was held in the Castle of Sannicandro di Bari, another iconic location that testifies to the strong link with territory.

Sustainability and healthy eating as guiding themes: In recent editions, the final evening has been dedicated to themes such as Sustainability on everyone’s lips, with buffet dinners proposing sustainable menus designed according to principles of healthy eating, prepared by Apulian chefs. The event disseminates knowledge of DOCG, DOP, IGP and organic wines and oils in relation to evolution and history of territories, promoting not just a product but a cultural and tourist model of Southern Italy.

食べ物、料理、特産品

Wines from native vines: The core of Radici del Sud is wine. You will find wines from native vines of Abruzzo, Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Puglia, Sardinia, Sicily and Molise. Expect to taste great reds like Primitivo di Manduria, Negroamaro, Aglianico del Vulture, Taurasi, Cirò, Cannonau di Sardegna, and great whites like Fiano di Avellino, Greco di Tufo, Falanghina, Vermentino di Sardegna and Sardegna, Etna Bianco from Carricante, plus rosés that have made Puglia famous, such as the first rosé in Italy produced by Leone de Castris. The competition categories valorize each grape individually, so you can compare different interpretations of the same native variety from different producers and regions.

Extra virgin olive oils from the South: Alongside wines, the event gives large space to southern extra virgin olive oils, particularly Apulian oils from Coratina, Ogliarola and Peranzana cultivars, but also Calabrian, Sicilian and Sardinian oils. The oil show is an opportunity to understand differences in intensity, bitterness and spiciness, and the link with monumental olive trees and ancient mills, including underground frantoi ipogei.

A basket of Southern products: During the final party and thematic dinners, Radici del Sud presents a basket of agri-food products that represent richness and uniqueness of Southern Italy. Chefs like Giammichele Pagone from Plebiscito 7 in Casamassima and Ottavio Surico from Osteria Borgo Antico prepare dishes that dialogue with wines, such as steamed beetroot sandwich with smoked beef and scapece-style courgettes, aubergine carpaccio with candied tomato, basil and stracciatella, fake Caprese tomato soup with mozzarella cream, and smoked grey mullet tartare with barrattiere and sour cream.

Dialogue between wine and cuisine: The event always schedules thematic dinners and tastings to intensify exchanges between protagonists and users of the event: producers, buyers, experts, restaurateurs and journalists. The cuisine proposed during the final evening is Apulian and Mediterranean, based on seasonal vegetables, legumes, fresh pasta like orecchiette, local cheeses and seafood, designed to pair with winning wines and to demonstrate principles of healthy and sustainable eating.

Organizers and institutional partners: Radici del Sud is organized by Propapilla – tourism wine and food and the Radici del Sud Enogastronomic Association, with promotion by Regional Council of Puglia, patronage of Chamber of Commerce of Bari, LUM Business School and Consulting, Navita, Acqua Orsini and collaboration with Vinarius, AEPI and AIS Puglia. This network ensures high professional level and national and international visibility.

Producers and wineries: Each year the event confirms presence of over 120 companies from all Southern regions. The updated list is published on www.radicidelsud.it. You will meet historic wineries like Cantina Due Palme, Leone de Castris, Claudio Quarta, and many small artisan wineries that work with organic and biodynamic methods, plus oil mills and agri-food producers presenting cheeses, cured meats, taralli, legumes and preserves.

Chefs involved: While Radici del Sud is primarily a wine and oil event, chefs play a central role in the final party and thematic dinners. In recent editions, chefs such as Giammichele Pagone, Ottavio Surico and other Apulian restaurant chefs have created sustainable menus for the final evening. During Press Tours, guests are hosted in restaurants and masserie of the territory, where they can taste traditional dishes like fave e cicoria, orecchiette with cime di rapa, ciceri e tria and bombette.

Buyers, journalists and wine experts: The added value of Radici del Sud lies in the network of national and international professionals who have alternated in over twenty editions. There are hundreds of authoritative representatives of the world of wine who have been involved, including international wine writers, Masters of Wine, importers from USA, Northern Europe and Asia, and Italian wine journalists and bloggers. This makes the event a place of exchange where producers can directly meet potential importers and receive immediate feedback on trends.

Waiting for Radici events: Throughout the year, the association organizes Waiting for Radici events, a traveling series that prepares the way for the June show. These events are held throughout national and international territory and constitute an opportunity for discussion between producers from various geographical areas, with permanent involvement of most representative pizza chefs and restaurant chefs from Puglia and Southern Italy.

食体験

Press and Buyer Tours in the territories: The experience begins with immersive tours that are considered one of the most appreciated parts of the event. For three days, international journalists and importers are accompanied by the organization to discover wineries and wine areas of Southern Italy. These tours include visits to vineyards, cellars, oil mills, historic villages, castles and masserie, with tastings directly at producers and moments dedicated to local gastronomy. It is a unique opportunity to understand the context behind a label, meeting families who have cultivated native vines for generations.

B2B meetings and blind competition: The following two days are dedicated to professional activities inside the Ex Distilleria Paolo Cassano. On one side, B2B meetings between importers and wine and olive producers allow targeted business appointments. On the other side, competition sessions take place, with wines divided by grape variety and judged by four different tasting commissions. The tastings are strictly blind, and the particular structure of juries allows a double reading of results, both international and Italian, which makes the final awards particularly reliable and useful for market positioning.

Conference and award ceremony: The final day opens with a moment of in-depth analysis in an opening conference on topics such as wine trends, what to expect for regions of Southern Italy, the future of wine with US duties and new trends in markets, and sustainability as a value that never goes out of fashion. This is followed by awarding of all winning wines of the competition, with categories for best white, rosé, red, sweet and sparkling from native varieties.

Salon open to the public: In the afternoon, the rooms open to the public, including operators, experts and wine and oil enthusiasts, with tasting tables where around one hundred producers exhibit. Visitors receive a tasting kit with glass and glass holder bag and can walk among counters, meet producers directly and taste hundreds of labels representative of the enormous wine heritage of the South. It is a moment of direct contact that many winelovers wait for all year.

Final party with winning wines: The grand finale is the final evening party, one of the most anticipated moments. From evening onwards, the tasting counter of winning wines of the edition is opened, accompanied by dishes created by Apulian chefs in a continuous dialogue between wine, cuisine and Mediterranean culture. The atmosphere is festive but professional, with music, buffet dinner and the opportunity to taste approximately seventy winning wines from all regions of Southern Italy in one place.

Unlike general wine fairs, it focuses only on indigenous grape varieties of Abruzzo, Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Puglia, Molise, Sardinia and Sicily, with a rigorous blind competition judged by two separate juries, international and Italian, and a program that includes immersive territory tours, B2B meetings and a final public day. It is both a business platform and a cultural project.

Radici del Sud is open to wine and oil producers, importers, buyers, journalists, bloggers, Masters of Wine, sommeliers, restaurateurs and passionate winelovers. The first days with tours, B2B meetings and competition are reserved for accredited professionals, journalists and buyers who must register on www.radicidelsud.it. The final day with tasting tables and final party is open to the public with a ticket that includes tasting kit, while professional accreditation for that day is also possible for operators.

What happens during the final public day and final party?

The final day begins with a conference on wine trends, market changes and sustainability, followed by award ceremony for winning wines of the competition. In the evening, the final party offers tasting of approximately seventy winning wines from all regions, accompanied by a buffet dinner with sustainable menus prepared by Apulian chefs, in a festive atmosphere with music and networking.

Where does Radici del Sud take place and how do I get there?

The main venue is the Ex Distilleria Paolo Cassano in Gioia del Colle, province of Bari, a historic distillery listed as monumental heritage and renovated into an events space. Some editions also use the Castle of Sannicandro di Bari for the final public day. Gioia del Colle is about 40 kilometers from Bari Airport and has a train station on the Bari-Taranto line. The venue has parking nearby, and the organization provides buses for press tours, making it easy to reach wineries and villages without driving.

Is Radici del Sud suitable for vegetarians and people with food allergies?

Yes, Radici del Sud is primarily a wine and oil exhibition, so tastings of wines and oils are naturally gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan, with no common allergens.
