Fiera del Fungo di Borgotaro IGP returns to Borgo Val di Taro for its 51st edition, with the festival taking place across two September weekends. The event celebrates the protected Fungo di Borgotaro IGP and combines food, agriculture, traditional markets, street food, mushroom culture, local producers, cooking demonstrations, entertainment and family activities.
The fair is spread through the historic centre rather than being contained within one enclosed festival ground. Visitors can move between the agro-food fair, traditional quality market, agricultural market, street-food areas, mycological exhibition and Officina del Gusto show-cooking area.
Food is at the centre of the programme, with particular attention given to Fungo di Borgotaro IGP, mountain Parmigiano Reggiano, Baciocca DE.CO., chestnuts, trout, black truffle and products from the Emilia-Romagna Apennines. The 2026 programme also includes wine pairings, cocktails, live music, children’s activities, exhibitions and outdoor experiences.

The 2026 Fiera del Fungo di Borgotaro takes place on September 19–20 and September 26–27, 2026. The official programme identifies the event as the 51st edition.
The fair opens at 9:00 on each Saturday and Sunday, with food markets, the mycological exhibition and other activities beginning in the morning. The programme continues through the afternoon and into the evening with food, entertainment and performances.
The two-weekend format allows visitors to choose between different culinary demonstrations and special events rather than trying to experience the entire programme in a single day.
Lieu principal : Historic Centre of Borgo Val di Taro, Province of Parma, Emilia-Romagna, Italy
Main festival areas: Centro Storico, Viale Bottego, Piazza 11 Febbraio, Piazza Cavour, Largo Roma, Piazza Verdi and surrounding public spaces.
The Fiera del Fungo di Borgotaro takes place throughout the historic centre of Borgo Val di Taro. The agro-food fair, traditional market, agricultural market and street food occupy central areas including the Centro Storico and Viale Bottego.
Piazza Cavour hosts the mycological exhibition, while Piazza 11 Febbraio is the principal location for the Officina del Gusto show-cooking programme. Largo Roma and Piazza Verdi are important areas for street food and entertainment.
The town-centre layout means visitors can combine the festival with a walk through Borgo Val di Taro and its historic streets.
The 2026 programme combines food markets, agricultural producers, street food, show cooking and specialist tastings.
Fiera Agroalimentare: The main agro-food fair includes food and agricultural products alongside a traditional quality market, agricultural market and street-food area. These activities are concentrated in the historic centre and Viale Bottego.
Officina del Gusto: Piazza 11 Febbraio hosts the main culinary demonstration programme, with chefs, producers and food specialists presenting regional recipes and ingredients.
Saturday, September 19: The food programme opens with a presentation of the gastronomic specialities of Trinità. Later demonstrations focus on chestnuts and Gnudi bianchi with fresh and dried porcini.
Sunday, September 20: The programme includes mountain Parmigiano Reggiano tastings, certified cooperative products from Emilia-Romagna and an innovative pairing of Valtarese finger food with cocktails.
Saturday, September 26: Visitors can attend the Baciocca DE.CO. and Colli di Parma wine presentation, followed by a show cooking dedicated to the flavours of the Apennines and the winning recipe from the Porcino in Cucina competition.
Sunday, September 27: The final food programme features black truffle from Bedonia, Crique ardéchoise reinterpreted with local ingredients, and trout paired with Colli di Parma sparkling wines.
The principal gastronomic product is the Fungo di Borgotaro IGP, the protected mushroom associated with the forests of the Alta Valtaro territory.
Fungo di Borgotaro IGP: The festival’s signature ingredient appears throughout the culinary programme in traditional recipes, cooking demonstrations, tastings and local restaurant menus.
Gnudi bianchi ai porcini: The first Saturday includes a demonstration by chef Ilaria Bertinelli featuring Gnudi bianchi prepared with both fresh and dried porcini and other local ingredients.
Baciocca DE.CO.: This traditional speciality from Santa Maria del Taro receives a dedicated show cooking and tasting, paired with wines from the Colli di Parma.
Mountain Parmigiano Reggiano: The Scaglia d’Oro event compares certified Parmigiano Reggiano from mountain dairies, with visitors participating as a popular jury.
Black truffle: The closing Sunday features a tasting and show cooking dedicated to the black truffle of Bedonia and other Val Ceno gastronomic products.
Trout: La Peschiera trout is presented in two versions and paired with sparkling wines from the Colli di Parma.
Crique ardéchoise: A regional reinterpretation of this French speciality is prepared with the aromas of the forest and local ingredients during the closing day’s culinary programme.
The festival brings together temporary food exhibitors, agricultural producers, market vendors, street-food operators and restaurants in Borgo Val di Taro.
Agro-food producers: The Fiera Agroalimentare provides the main setting for producers and sellers of food and agricultural products.
Farmers’ market: The agricultural market provides an opportunity to discover products from local and regional producers.
Street-food vendors: The street-food areas around Largo Roma and Piazza Verdi provide casual food options accompanied by music and entertainment.
Local restaurants: Restaurants in Borgo Val di Taro and the surrounding Alta Valtaro area extend the festival’s food programme beyond the temporary stands.
Regional producers: The Officina del Gusto programme gives visitors opportunities to meet and learn about producers of Parmigiano Reggiano, certified cooperative products, wines, trout and other regional specialities.
The festival also includes related visits to local food-production facilities, giving visitors the opportunity to connect festival dishes with their agricultural and artisanal origins.
Wine and beverage pairings form an important part of the 2026 gastronomic programme.
Colli di Parma wines: The Baciocca DE.CO. presentation is specifically paired with wines from the Colli di Parma.
Colli di Parma sparkling wines: The final Sunday includes a tasting of La Peschiera trout with sparkling wines from Cantina La Bandina.
Cocktails: The Sunday programme presents an innovative pairing of Valtarese finger food and cocktails, showing a more contemporary side of the local food culture.
Beer: The festival’s wider food programme has historically included craft beer alongside regional food products, although the 2026 official programme does not publish a complete beer list.
Visitors can therefore expect the strongest emphasis to be on regional wine, sparkling wine and food pairings, supplemented by cocktails and other festival beverages.
The Officina del Gusto is the central gastronomic stage of the 2026 edition, with a sequence of cooking demonstrations and tastings across both weekends.
Trinità gastronomy: The opening show cooking introduces gastronomic specialities from Trinità in the Province of Piacenza.
Chestnut cooking: A presentation explores the use of chestnuts in traditional autumn dishes of Borgo Val di Taro.
Gnudi bianchi with porcini: Chef Ilaria Bertinelli demonstrates a recipe combining fresh and dried Fungo di Borgotaro IGP with local ingredients.
Scaglia d’Oro: Visitors can participate in comparative tasting of mountain Parmigiano Reggiano and other certified cheeses as part of the public judging process.
Certified regional products: FedAgri Agroalimentare Parma and Emilia-Romagna presents certified cooperative products followed by a tasting.
Finger food and cocktails: Samuel Foschi and chef Luca Pardini present an innovative combination of Valtarese finger food and cocktails.
Porcino in Cucina: The third edition of the culinary competition concludes with the presentation, show cooking and tasting of the winning porcini recipe.
Black truffle: Chef Michele Mauro leads the Bedonia black-truffle presentation and tasting.
Trout and sparkling wine: The closing Sunday concludes the culinary programme with trout from La Peschiera paired with Colli di Parma sparkling wine.
Children can also take part in educational workshops, including the English-language playful educational workshop at the Mushroom Museum and free Thinkeringiocando sessions for children aged 5–8.
The main Fiera del Fungo di Borgotaro is organised as a public town-centre fair, so visitors do not need a general admission ticket to enter the main festival areas.
General festival entry: Libre.
Food market: Free to enter, with food and products purchased separately from individual vendors.
Nourriture de rue : The street-food areas are part of the public festival programme, with individual food and drink purchases handled by participating operators.
Show cooking: The main Officina del Gusto demonstrations and public tastings are included within the festival programme.
Children’s workshop: The English-language children’s laboratory on September 19 lists a participation fee of $11.48 and has limited places with advance booking recommended.
Thinkeringiocando: The children’s tinkering workshops on September 20 and September 27 are free, but advance reservation is required.
The official 2026 programme does not advertise a dedicated VIP ticket, premium festival pass or VIP hospitality area.
Instead, visitors can choose specialist experiences connected with the festival and the surrounding territory.
Guided mushroom activities: Visitors can join organised mushroom and wild-herb excursions and learn about the local woodland environment.
Parmigiano Reggiano experience: Related programming includes visits connected with local mountain dairy production and tasting experiences.
Panoramic excursions: Guided walks through the hills surrounding Borgo Val di Taro are available during the festival weekends.
Fungo Bike: The official related-events programme includes free road and mountain-bike rides through the territory of Fungo di Borgotaro IGP, with routes through panoramic roads and woodland trails.
These experiences are separate from the main festival entry and may have their own reservation requirements.
The festival occupies public streets, squares and historic areas, so visitors should follow directions from event organisers, local authorities and individual activity providers.
Mushroom collecting: Mushroom gathering in the surrounding territory is subject to applicable regional rules and authorisations. Visitors should check the current collection regulations before entering the woods.
Guided excursions: Some excursions and specialist activities have limited places and require advance reservation.
Children’s activities: Certain workshops require advance booking because places are limited. The Thinkeringiocando sessions, for example, require reservation by the Friday before the activity.
Outdoor activities: Visitors joining mushroom walks, panoramic hikes or cycling routes should wear suitable clothing and footwear for woodland and mountain conditions.
Food and drink: Purchases and consumption are subject to the individual conditions of participating vendors, restaurants and event operators.
Borgo Val di Taro is located in the Alta Valtaro area of the Province of Parma, in the Parma Apennines.
En voiture : The town is accessible from the A15 Parma–La Spezia motorway. The Borgotaro motorway exit connects to a main road leading toward the town centre.
Par train : Borgo Val di Taro railway station is approximately 900 metres from the historic centre, making it possible to reach the main festival area on foot.
From northern Italy: The town is connected to the principal road network of northern Italy and is positioned close to the borders with Liguria and Tuscany.
The location makes Borgo Val di Taro suitable for a weekend trip combining the festival with autumn sightseeing in the surrounding Apennines.
The railway station is approximately 900 metres from the historic centre, providing a convenient option for visitors travelling by train.
Because the festival occupies central streets and squares, visitors arriving by car should expect increased activity around the town centre and allow extra time to park and walk to the main festival areas.
Camper parking: The official festival website identifies the following free, non-equipped camper parking areas:
The festival’s central location means visitors can leave their vehicles outside the busiest areas and continue on foot.
Borgo Val di Taro: Staying in the town itself provides the easiest access to the historic centre, festival areas, restaurants and railway station.
Alta Valtaro: Surrounding villages and countryside provide rural accommodation options and are suitable for visitors who want to combine the festival with hiking and autumn scenery.
Agriturismi: Farm stays and rural properties provide an opportunity to experience the agricultural landscape associated with the festival’s food traditions.
Hotels and B&Bs: Borgo Val di Taro and nearby communities have hotels, bed-and-breakfast properties and other visitor accommodation.
Camping and camper stays: Visitors travelling with camping equipment or camper vehicles can use local camping facilities and the free camper areas identified by the festival organisers.
Because the fair attracts visitors across two weekends, booking accommodation early is advisable.
The most important food experiences at the 2026 edition include:
The festival is particularly interesting for visitors who want to experience the Fungo di Borgotaro IGP in different culinary formats rather than simply buying fresh mushrooms.
The festival is distributed across the historic centre, public streets and several separate squares. Because it is not held in one purpose-built venue, accessibility conditions can vary between individual locations.
Visitors with mobility requirements should contact the organisers before travelling if they need specific information about accessible routes, parking or individual activities.
The railway station is approximately 900 metres from the historic centre, while the principal festival areas are located within the town.
Outdoor mushroom excursions, hiking routes and woodland activities have different terrain conditions and should be assessed separately before booking.

The 2025 edition marked the 50th anniversary of the Fiera del Fungo di Borgotaro IGP and continued the festival’s established combination of mushroom gastronomy, food markets, entertainment and cultural activities.
The anniversary programme featured food demonstrations, regional producers, street food, craft beverages, exhibitions, family entertainment and activities connected with the surrounding woodland and food culture.
The 2026 edition builds on this established format while adding a strong programme of Officina del Gusto demonstrations and tastings focused on local and regional products.
The continuing emphasis on Fungo di Borgotaro IGP, Parmigiano Reggiano, traditional specialities, local wines and Apennine products remains central to the fair’s identity.
The main Fiera del Fungo di Borgotaro is a public town-centre event and does not require a general admission ticket. Visitors can freely enter the main market, exhibition and festival areas, while food, drinks and certain specialist activities are handled separately.
