Brescia Art Marathon, also known as BAM Gruppo Bossoni Brescia Art Marathon, is one of Lombardy’s most beloved urban running festivals, where art, history and athletic challenge meet in a compact historic center. Organized in the heart of a UNESCO World Heritage city, the event offers three competitive distances plus non competitive formats, all designed to showcase Brescia’s unique character. Expect to run past Roman ruins, Renaissance palaces, medieval towers and modern green neighborhoods within a few kilometers, a variety rarely found in other Italian marathons.
The route is entirely urban, approved and certified, and known for being smooth and fast without significant elevation changes. The difference in altitude between start and finish is only about 4 meters, from 156 meters to 152 meters above sea level, with a maximum altitude of around 181 meters near the 8th kilometer toward the university district and castle hill. This makes it ideal both for runners chasing a personal best and for those who want to enjoy a scenic tour at a relaxed pace. Hundreds of volunteers supervise every intersection, ensuring safety and support along the entire course.
What makes BAM special is its atmosphere. The Marathon Village is set in Piazza Vittoria, a monumental square from the Fascist period that now serves as the hub of services, music and community. The finish line is in the magnificent Piazza Loggia, the Renaissance living room of Brescia, embellished by Palazzo della Loggia, Clock Tower and Monte di Pietà. Running under the porticos of Via San Faustino at the start and finishing under the Bella Italia statue creates a powerful emotional contrast between start energy and finish celebration. The event also carries a strong social message with its Pink Marathon initiative, offering a fixed price for women marathon runners for the entire registration period to encourage female participation.

BAM does not use a conventional stadium, because the city center itself functions as a stadium with its squares acting as natural arenas.
Piazza Vittoria – Marathon Village is the operational heart. This large rationalist square, just a few hundred meters from the finish, hosts bib and race bag collection, official shirt distribution, bag drop trucks on Via IV Novembre south of the square, meeting points for starting grids, sponsor stands, medical coordination and warm up areas. Its wide, open layout allows for staggered wave starts and clear separation of distances. The square is also a useful reference for understanding Brescia’s more recent history and modern face.
Via San Faustino – Start Line is the competitive launch point. Located at the northern edge of the historic center, it offers a long straight rollout that helps disperse the field before entering narrower historic streets. Athletes gather in Piazza Vittoria and then move to Via San Faustino for departure. Personal bag delivery must be completed no later than 8:00 am in Via IV Novembre where trucks dedicated to various race distances are parked.
Piazza Loggia – Finish Line is the majestic arrival. Considered the most beautiful square in Brescia, it is scenographic and Renaissance in character, with the Palazzo della Loggia, astronomical clock with Macc de le Ore, and porticos that create natural grandstands for spectators. After crossing the line, runners receive medal and thermal blanket if necessary via hand delivery, then proceed to final refreshments. The square is also the meeting point for the historical and social guided tour route that touches Via Gasparo da Salò, Corso Mameli and Contrada San Giovanni.
The overall course touches unique landmarks such as the Mille Miglia Museum, the evocative Capitolium Roman temple, Arco del Broletto that leads to historic center, Piazza Paolo VI with Old Cathedral and New Cathedral, and the castle hill that dominates Brescia from above.
The weekend is compact and focused, designed to keep logistics simple for athletes traveling from across Italy and Europe.
On Saturday before the main race, the Marathon Village in Piazza Vittoria opens from morning to evening, typically from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm. This is the primary window for race number, race bag and official shirt collection. Athletes must present confirmation email sent by EvoData and valid ID. Based on personal best time provided during registration, athletes find the color corresponding to their starting grid on their bib. Registration can be verified on the race website under verify registration. This day also hosts final technical briefings, press conference at Palazzo Loggia Council Room, and shake out runs through historic center.
On Sunday race morning, the village reopens very early, from around 6:00 am to 8:00 am for last minute collection for those who could not arrive Saturday. Meeting point is in Piazza Vittoria. Personal bag delivery closes at 8:00 am in Via IV Novembre. Starting grids are organized by declared personal bests, ensuring faster runners start ahead for safety and flow. All competitive distances depart at 8:30 am from Via San Faustino, with wave management to avoid crowding. The marathon has a time limit of 6 hours, the half marathon 2 hours 30 minutes, after which organizers can no longer guarantee closure of race course.
After finish in Piazza Loggia, athletes proceed through medal area, refreshment area, and then return toward Piazza Vittoria for bag collection from trucks, changing areas and services. The afternoon features awards ceremonies in Piazza Loggia, official rankings publication on ENDU portal, and community events including Sportland Easy Run 10k and Family Walking 5 km, which are non competitive recreational events organized with FIASP, allowing even non runners to enjoy emotions of running and walking through streets of Brescia on same day.
