The Lucca Marathon is a running celebration born from a simple idea shared by runners who wanted to give marathoners the opportunity to run in a very beautiful town and area. Now consolidated into multiple events under ASD Lucca Marathon, this race has become a reference for Tuscany, combining the imposing city walls, the historic center and the countryside villages around Lucca.
Expect an event that involves everyone and enriches the half marathon with the presence of over 1000 runners. The project includes Lucca Half Marathon, La Lucchesina which is the race of the people of Lucca created to pay homage to a historical figure of Lucca in each edition, 10km UISP non-competitive, and Un Giro di Mura a Tutta, a full tour of walls event. The atmosphere is festive, colorful and deeply local, with passages under the walls from old sorties to access stands where you can admire the sixteenth-century circle of walls.
Lucca itself is unique. The city is completely enclosed by Renaissance walls 4 kilometers long, perfectly preserved, now a public park where locals walk, cycle and run daily. The marathon starts from the historical center on top of the walls, goes out to some of the most beautiful villages located around Lucca, through Capannori and the countryside, before coming back towards the city. The half marathon route is designed with runners in mind with minimal elevation gain, smooth surfaces and few sharp turns, so athletes can maintain optimal pace without breaking stride. It starts at the impressive city walls and finishes in the iconic Piazza Napoleone, winding through scenic urban landscape including two laps on historic walls and two laps on outer cycle path.
