The Naturosa Catania Marathon is Sicily’s coastal marathon that transforms the Etna coastline into a huge open-air stage. Established in 2018 to bring the sport of marathon running back to Catania, this event has grown from a circuit on Viale Kennedy counting participation of over 1000 athletes in its first three editions to a certified route through Catania’s historical center that has earned recognition from FIDAL and World Athletics.

Expect a completely flat course bathed in light and colors of the Catania coast, where every step is accompanied by energy of the sea and warmth of the crowd. The heart of the event beats on the sea, with a route that runs entirely along the coast amid scent of salty sea air, open horizon and unique scenery dominated by Mount Etna. Departure from Catania’s Playa, the famous sandy beach south of city, creates a true sports village with music, cheering stands, entertainment and festive atmosphere that brings together athletes, families and fans for a day of sport and sharing.

Three distances are scheduled, 10.5k, 21k and 42k, all along flowing and picturesque course ideal for those aiming for personal best or those wishing to experience magic of first marathon. The route winds along a circuit of 10.548 km to be repeated several times in relation to race distance, with 1 lap for 10.5 km, 2 laps for half marathon and 4 laps for marathon. This multi-loop format makes it beginner friendly, city based, closed road, seaside, with 1000 to 4999 participants and high PB potential.

Sunday December 13 from 7:30 AM at start finish area in Viale Kennedy only and exclusively for regular athletes and those coming from outside province of Catania.

Jour de la course : Sunday 8:30 AM onwards start for all distances from Viale Kennedy at Lido Verde, La Playa area. Marathon 4 laps, Half Marathon 2 laps, 10.5 km 1 lap.

Caractère du lieu : La Playa is Catania’s famous long sandy beach south of city, backed by Ionian Sea on one side and Mount Etna dominating horizon on other. The start finish area transforms into sports village with music, cheering stands and entertainment. The circuit runs entirely along coast, completely flat, ideal for PB, with open horizon and salty air.

Historical Evolution: First three editions held on circuit on Viale Kennedy counting participation of over 1000 athletes. Last editions characterised by change in route which included tour of city passing through most characteristic points of Catania’s historical centre, including Via Etnea, Piazza Duomo with Elephant Fountain, Via Crociferi and Castello Ursino area before returning to Playa. Current edition returns to more engaging and spectacular coastal edition to maximize flat profile.

Course Marks: Route along Viale Kennedy, start finish at Lido Verde, 1 lap 10.5 km, 2 laps half marathon, 4 laps marathon, with distance markers, drink stations and nutrition stations.

Samedi : Expo and bib collection at SPORT ON shop Via Cesare Vivante 39/41 from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM. To collect bib, you need to print confirmation letter and hand it in at bib collection point. Sponsor stands, Naturosa sponsor village, technical briefing, presentation of elite athletes. Reachable by AMTS buses 431N and 940. Evening shake-out run along Playa.

Dimanche matin : Bib collection from 7:30 AM at start finish area in Viale Kennedy only for regular athletes and those coming from outside province of Catania. Bag drop opens early, changing area, toilets, parking available. Warm-up along Viale Kennedy.

Sunday Race: Start around 8:30 AM to 9:00 AM for all distances. First lap same for all three races includes passage through city with return to Viale Kennedy which will be finish for 10.5k while it will be transit for marathon and half marathon. Second lap for half marathon finish, fourth lap for marathon finish. Music and cheering stands along Playa.

Dimanche midi : Finish festival at Lido Verde, finisher medal ceremony, goodie bag, event t-shirts distribution. Medical assistance at finish.

Après la course : Parking remains available, bag retrieval, free time to enjoy La Playa beach and Etna views.

Marathon 42,195 km : Competitive, certified distance, flat, road, multiple loops, 4 laps of 10.548 km circuit. Start finish at Lido Verde Viale Kennedy, route along Viale Kennedy. Ideal for personal best, completely flat. Chip timing single use.

Semi-marathon 21,097 km : Competitive, 2 laps of same circuit, flat, road, closed road, seaside, beginner friendly. Finish at same location as marathon, but after 2 laps. Transit timing at end of first lap.

10,5 km : Competitive and non-competitive versions, 1 lap, flat, road, ideal for beginners and those wanting first race, with finish at Viale Kennedy.

Loop Logic: First lap same for all three races includes passage through city with return to Viale Kennedy which will be finish for 10.5k while transit for marathon and half marathon. This allows spectators to see runners multiple times.

Ranking: FIDAL certified, World Athletics recognized, with age groups, absolute podiums and custom bib numbers. Event t-shirts and finisher medals for all.

En train : Catania Centrale station is main hub, then metro or bus line 241 to Picanello athletics field, or AMTS buses 431N and 940 to Via Cesare Vivante expo and Viale Kennedy.

En voiture: A18 and A19 motorways exit Catania, follow signs for La Playa and Viale Kennedy. Parking available at Lido Verde and along Viale Kennedy.

En bus : AMTS buses serve city, especially 431N and 940 to expo and start finish area, plus buses to Ognina waterfront and Playa.

À bicyclette: Catania is bike-friendly along coast, bike lanes on Viale Kennedy.
