Full fixture or event schedule

The complete 2027 fixture list and individual match pairings have not yet been published.

The confirmed tournament structure currently includes:

  • Elite 7s: June 5–6
  • Social 7s: June 5–6
  • Veterans 10s: June 5
  • Youth 7s: June 2

The Elite and Social 7s competitions use a group stage followed by knockout matches. The 2027 website states that the tournaments are expected to involve more than 75 teams and countless matches.

For reference, the previous tournament format placed senior teams into groups of four, with three group matches followed by a Sunday knockout stage. Each team was guaranteed at least one Sunday match.

Teams, athletes & participants

The 2027 festival is open to teams from Italy and abroad, with the programme designed around several different levels and age groups.

Elite 7s

Men’s and women’s Elite teams compete in the highest-level 7s category, with professional, semi-professional and national-team-level participation encouraged by the organisers.

Social 7s

The men’s and women’s Social competitions combine competitive rugby with the festival’s recreational atmosphere. Teams from different countries participate, with costumes, team traditions and the famous third-half culture forming part of the experience.

Veterans 10s

The Veterans competition uses a 10-a-side format and is designed for experienced rugby players returning to the field in a more social tournament environment.

Youth 7s

The Youth category covers U14, U16 and U18 teams and follows the 7-a-side federal format, with participants required to comply with Italian rugby federation registration requirements.

Tournament format & competition structure

The main Elite and Social tournaments are played over two days.

Group stage

Teams are divided into groups, with each team playing multiple matches during the opening stage. The previous published tournament regulations used four teams per group and three group matches per team.

Knockout stage

Teams progress into appropriate elimination brackets based on their group-stage results. The previous format guaranteed every participating senior team at least one Sunday match.

Match format

Previous Milano7s regulations used two seven-minute halves with a one-minute interval for standard matches. Finals used the same seven-minute halves with a longer interval. Drawn knockout matches could proceed to sudden-death extra time.

The final 2027 competition regulations and bracket details should be checked once issued by the tournament organisers.

Match/event times

The detailed 2027 fixture times have not yet been released.

The previous tournament schedule provides a useful guide:

  • Senior Elite and Social competition: matches beginning from approximately 9:00 AM
  • Veterans 10s: daytime tournament
  • Youth 7s: daytime tournament
  • Finals: Sunday afternoon
  • Awards: immediately after the final

The previous edition scheduled the senior group stage for Saturday and the final stage for Sunday, while the Youth competition ran as a dedicated tournament day.

Teams must arrive on time because the tournament involves a large number of matches running throughout the day.

Ticket types

General admission to watch the rugby and access the festival entertainment is free. The official 2027 website describes the event as open to everyone and specifically promotes free entry to the festival area.

Competitive participation requires team registration.

Current 2027 team-registration prices include:

  • Elite 7s: approximately $439 per team
  • Social 7s: from approximately $439 per team
  • Veterans 10s: from approximately $228 per team
  • Youth 7s: approximately $158 per team

These prices are converted from the currently published 2027 registration prices.

Player registration packages can include tournament participation, athlete services, meals, welcome materials and festival access depending on the category.

Ticket release phases

The 2027 team-registration process opened from September 15, 2026, according to the festival’s official information.

The registration process generally involves two stages:

  • Initial team registration
  • Later player and staff check-in with detailed participant information

The previous registration system required team managers to submit the final player list during the second check-in stage. Details included names, dates of birth, identification information and medical status.

Teams should register early because categories can reach capacity and some categories may be subject to organisational evaluation.

VIP & hospitality options

Milano Rugby Festival does not currently advertise a conventional spectator VIP ticket or premium hospitality package.

The main premium-style services are designed around participating teams rather than general spectators. Depending on the tournament category, team registration can include:

  • Reserved athlete areas
  • Physiotherapy and osteopathy services
  • Athlete facilities
  • Tournament meals
  • Welcome packs
  • Camping access reservation
  • Free access to evening festival events
  • Competition prizes

The exact inclusions depend on the category and registration package.

Stadium & event rules

Teams and participants must comply with the official tournament regulations and arrive on time for their scheduled matches. Previous regulations emphasised punctuality because more than 150 matches can be scheduled across the tournament programme.

Important competition requirements include:

  • Players must be properly registered with their national rugby federation.
  • Medical requirements must be satisfied according to the applicable rules.
  • Teams must complete the required registration and check-in procedures.
  • Seven players are permitted on the field at one time in 7s matches.
  • Substitutions take place during stoppages and with referee permission.
  • Teams arriving late for a scheduled match can be penalised.
  • Tournament organisers retain authority over competition decisions under the published rules.

Camping has separate regulations, including restricted access for registered campers and an age restriction for the campsite.

How to get there

Public transport & parking

The easiest public transport connection is Milan Metro Line M2 to Cernusco sul Naviglio. From the station, the festival site is around 800 metres away.

Visitors arriving by car can use parking facilities near the festival area. The organisers specifically state that parking for cars and minibuses is available close to the festival.

During the busiest tournament periods, arriving early is advisable because team vehicles, spectators and festival visitors can all be using the surrounding parking areas.

Accommodation areas

Players’ camping

The official festival campsite is located inside the sports-centre area where the tournament and festival take place. Camping can be added to eligible tournament registrations subject to availability. Showers, toilets and electricity are available in the sports-centre facilities close to the camping area.

The campsite is restricted to registered tournament participants and children under 18 are not permitted in the camping area.

Cernusco sul Naviglio

Staying locally provides the shortest journey to the tournament and festival site.

Milan

Visitors who prefer a larger selection of hotels can stay in Milan and use the M2 metro to reach Cernusco sul Naviglio.

Linate area

Accommodation around Linate is convenient for visitors arriving by air and provides relatively easy road and public-transport access to the festival.

The organisers also state that special rates are available with three 3- and 4-star hotels in the area for festival participants.

Food & drink at the venue

Food and drink are a major part of the Milano Rugby Festival experience.

The 2027 festival features a large food and beverage area with renovated vintage food trucks, a broad selection of food and high-volume service designed for the large evening crowds. The organisers say the festival has capacity to serve more than 20,000 people per day.

The festival’s food area operates around the tournament and party programme, providing food and drinks from the daytime matches through the evening entertainment.

The organisers also highlight substantial beer and cocktail service, while the food offering is designed to provide a range of choices rather than operating as a single cuisine concept.

Accessibility

The festival is held at a sports-centre complex with multiple rugby pitches, festival areas and athlete facilities.

Because much of the event takes place outdoors, visitors should expect walking between the pitches, festival area, food facilities and other activities.

Visitors with specific accessibility requirements should contact the organisers before attending to confirm suitable routes, parking arrangements and access to particular areas.
